You and the NHS-are you exempt charges?

You may be entitled to an NHS voucher towards the cost of your eye examination.  You may also be entitled to an NHS voucher to help with the cost of your spectacles or contact lenses.
The following patients are entitled to a free eye examination
  • Children under 16 
  • Children over 16 and under 19 in full time education
  • Patients of age 60 years and over
  • If you hold an NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
  • If you or your partner receive any of the following benefits
    • Income support
    • Job Seekers Allowance
    • Employment Support Allowance
    • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Patients who hold a HC2 or HC3 certificate (means tested)
  • Complex lens wearers
  • If you have Diabetes
  • If you have Glaucoma
  • If you are the Relative of a glaucoma patient and are over 40 ie parent, sibling or child
  • If you are blind or partially sighted
If you think you are on a low income and would like to apply for assistance with your eyecare, please ring our reception, and they will help you with the appropriate paper work.  Your local DHSS office will also advise you.
Patients in the categories marked in red above are also entitled to an NHS voucher towards the cost of their spectacles or contact lenses.
